Our Environment
Our Beech Room is an exciting and enriching environment designed for curious, busy toddlers.
Children at this age are developing rapidly, so we create spaces that support their growing
independence, communication and confidence.
Using the Curiosity Approach, our room is filled with
natural materials, open-ended resources and real-life objects that encourage children to explore, imagine
and experiment.
How toddlers learn
We understand that toddlers learn best through play and meaningful experiences. Practitioners model language throughout the day, supporting children to express their thoughts, make choices and develop early conversation skills. We have developed our own bespoke curriculum following the Early Years Foundation Stage to plan a rich mix of experiences that help children build early maths, communication and social skills through play.
Play invitations
Our Beech Room offers a balance of calm spaces and active areas. Children can choose from a range of thoughtful invitations to play, including:
-
Mixing, pouring and filling in the sensory area
-
Construction, block play and early problem-solving
-
Small-world play with real objects and natural materials
-
Early mark-making using chalks, paints and loose parts
-
Role play with real-life props (food tins, baskets, bags, utensils)
-
Sorting and pattern play with natural objects
These experiences encourage curiosity, imagination and early critical thinking.
Building independence
Toddlers are developing strong social skills, so practitioners gently guide turn-taking, friendships and emotional understanding. We support children to recognise and express their feelings, helping them build confidence and resilience.
Supporting development
Independence is a big focus in our Beech Room. Children are supported to help with simple routines such as putting on coats, washing hands, choosing resources and helping with tidy-up time. Outdoor play is a key part of our day, offering space to run, climb, balance and explore the natural world.
Transition to Oak Room
As children approach age three, we work closely with families to support next steps in communication, social development, early literacy and early maths. When they are ready, we ensure a smooth, positive transition into the Oak Room.
Children in Beech Room explore:
-
Natural loose parts
-
Heuristic play
